Mowry was born in Gelnhausen, Hesse, West Germany, to Darlene Renee (Flowers) and Timothy John Mowry. She has two twins sister Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tahj Mowry. She also has an older brother Tavior Mowry who played college football for the University of California Davis Aggies. Her father served in the United States Army and was stationed at Panzer Kaserne in Friedberg (now part of Friedland), Hesse when she was born. The family later moved to Waldorf, Maryland where she attended Thomas Stone High School.
In 1998, she married Adam Housley after attending Pepperdine University together and graduating with a degree in broadcast journalism. The couple have two children: a daughter Ariah Talea (born July 1, 2015) and a son Aden John Tanner (born November 12, 2018).
