Saravanan Sivakumar, popularly known by his adopted movie name Suriya, is very popular Indian actor, producer, television presenter and a philanthropist who has created a mass fan following over the years and released successful superhit movies till 2024. His fans are found in all over the world not just in India or regional cinema. Surya mostly appears in regional Tamil films and made his debut in the film Nerrukku Ner, which was released in the year 1997. Here is the little review of his life before getting into the movie-business. Surya was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu on July 23, 1975 in Chennai. His father, Sivakumar is a veteran actor and his mother Lakshmi is a homemaker. He has a brother– Karthi who is also a popular actor in the South belt. Surya did his schooling at St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and thereafter attended Loyola College for a degree in commerce.

Surya was married to Jyothika Saravanan on September 11, 2006. The couple has two children – Diya (born August 10, 2007) and Dev (born June 7, 2010).

Suriya has two younger siblings, a brother Karthi and a sister Brindha. His career in films began when he starred in the romantic-drama movie Nandha, which earned him a Film Award for Best Actor. This movie became the breakthrough role in his acting career.

After this, he went on to act in many successful movies such as Kaaka Kaaka, Pithamagan, Perazhagan, Ghajini, Vaaranam Aayiram and Vikram etc.

Suriya teamed up with AR Murugadoss once again in 2012 for science fiction drama ‘7aum Arivu’, which didn’t do well at the box office compared to their previous film. Hence, Suriya decided to take a break with the director and refused to do ‘Thuppakki’ with him. Instead, he decided to venture into other genres such as action and thriller movies like Singam, Anjaan and 24 and many more afterwards.

Suriya has also produced several films under his production banner 2D Entertainment. Some of his popular productions include Naan Mahaan Alla, Kuttram 23, Thaanaa Serndha Koottam and Gang etc..
