Walken was born on March 31, 1943, in Astoria, Queens, New York City. His mother, Rosalie (nee Russell; 1916–2010), was a Scottish-born former actress and Strauss waltzer. His father, Paul Walken (1913–2020) was a German-born baker who owned a bakery in Astoria. Christopher’s paternal grandfather was from Düsseldorf, and his paternal grandmother was from Würzburg in Bavaria.
Walken began appearing onstage at an early age, performing with his family in various vaudeville acts. He made his screen debut at the age of 10 in the live television children’s show The Wonderful John Acton as Johnny Acton. In 1953, he appeared as a player in an episode of the TV series Studio One titled “The Langoliers”.
Christopher Walken has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor three times and won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for his role in the short film Ambush.
